The Cincinnati Reds have got some cash problems (don't we all?) and they'd like to apparently trade off some of their higher-priced players to help alleviate the problem, according to FanHouse.
The Reds shelled out $71 million for its players this past season and the rumor is that the team needs to bring that down to around $65 million. Reds GM Walt Jocketty isn't hiding this fact, either: "We're going to probably have less to spend this year than we have in the past," he said. "It just depends on how [ticket] sales go this off-season."
Attendance at the Great American Ballpark dropped by more than 15 percent from 2008 to 2009. The candidates to get chucked over the side in Cincinnati appear to be second baseman Brandon Phillips(notes), who will make a little less than $7 million next year; pitcher Aaron Harang(notes), who makes $12.5 million next year; and pitcher Bronson Arroyo(notes), who will make $12.25 million next season.

To GM Walt Jocketty:
Maybe if you brought in quality talent and did not trade every person who shows a glimpse of talent (nor overpay for non-performing players) you might sell more tickets.
No one wants to pay $65 a crack to watch people from the minors and other teams scrubs?

Harang's value is not so high right now, I think you keep him unless some one makes an offer that knocks your socks off or until you know Volquez will be back late next summer.
Cordero is coming off an All Star year. He is a luxury not a neccessity to a 4th place team. Put Massett or Burton on the closers role.
Phillips is a good player; but not the face of the club. He doesn't hustle all the time but does play hurt. Dusty has fined him numerous times for things; but he is a fan favorite. I would keep him.
This Red's team is not as bad as many think. My next year line up if you trade Arroyo and Cordero for a good young catcher, shortstop, a couple of good arms and a potential left hander starter. This should put the payroll around 60 million.
Drew Stubbs CF
Paul Janish or new SS
Joey Votto 1B
Scott Rolen 3b
Brandon Phillips 2B
Jay Bruce RF
NEW LEFT Fielder or Jonny Gomes
New Catcher or Hanigan
Pitcher
Pitching Staff:
Homer Bailey
Johnny Cueto
Aaron Harang
Left hander I can't think of his name
traded pitcher in deal above
Bullpen is always up in the air.
Let's not forget the true curse, George Grande has retired. I look for the Red to return to their winning ways.

The 3 pitchers of Harang, Arroyo and Cordero combine to make around $36 Million....THAT'S HALF OF PAYROLL...... Votto, Bruce, Volquez, Cueto, Bailey, Burton, Dickerson, Stubbs, Balentien are all young players with high level potential. Find a spot for Big Alonso, Frazier is the SS of the Future and Mike Leake is still in the mix.... If trading Phillips can bring back solid prospects or MLB ready talent in return- then I don't see why not. Sign Placido Polanco and get some veteran character on the offensive side of the ball. 2B is one of the easiest positions to replace.
