MLB - Sports Rumors

“KevinKevin Towers is still getting paid to be the general manager of the San Diego Padres even though the team has relieved him of his duties so he's apparently planning to enjoy his free time for a little bit before signing on with any other club.

The Boston Red Sox have reportedly told Towers that they would make a job for him if he wanted to come to New England, according to the Boston Globe. Since Red Sox assistant GM Jed Hoyer is a supposed frontrunner to take over the job Towers left behind, Towers could end up taking Hoyer's spot in Boston if Hoyer gets the job in San Diego.

Of course, if the Red Sox are sniffing around, you gotta believe the New York Yankees are interested, too. Towers has a pal in Yankees GM Brian Cashman so it's believed that the Yanks will eventually offer him a position as well.

Good for Boston! Kevin Towers did a great job in San Diego, bringing in good young pitchers and getting rid of ballplayers such as Scott Hairston that cost more than they were worth. He has a good eye for young talant and will help the Red Sox immensely!

yankees suck. any team with that much money shouldnt even lose a game, yet they still manage to squeek by teams like the angels. just go sign joe mauer so your payroll can top the 250 mil mark and be $100 mil over the next team. how can baseball not have a salary cap

If anyone knows anything about baseball then you would know that every franchise would want Towers on their staff as a PITCHING scout only. He is a terrible evaluator of position players, but pitching he knows.

It's funny how all you Boston fans and more love to hate the Yankees. I'm a die hard Yankee Fan and I know they spend to much money. But the fact is, it doesn't matter how much money you spend it all comes down to team chemistry. Boston spends as much as the Yankees do but didn't have the chemistry this year. If the Yankees win the World Series its because of team chemistry not just money. Stop crying all you non Yankee fans!

ricko, maybe the san diego front office should look at team chemistry first. The red sox were in such dis aray by the end of the season that they didn't know who to play. And by the way, how times has san diego made the playoffs? Good players are great to have but if you don't win that doesn't mean anything.

chip by all accounts the giants had good team chemisry this year, but we needed some bats, i'm sure with a 130 million per year of additional spending we could have those needed bats, and anything else they might need. enjoy your advantange, hug it, but don't excuse it. .

mr. dav.....i think thier is probably some validity to it, especially if it could help in bringing gonzalaz to boston, theo s from the san diego organization and so is the red sox president,..but maybe to many chiefs with this guy in the mix, dont know what thier personal relationships might be like..........chip....the yankees know about chemistry alright....ha, i do get your point thou, red sox werent a cohesive unit in the second half, red sox will counter ., i m sure of that, think some guys will be leaving the team this off season thier hitting wasnt up to championship level late in the year, especially when compared to the yankee allstar team

al c yankees market to 19 million people in the new york metro area ,twins to 3 million in theirs, i'm sure the yankees make much more money due to the shear size of their market to sell cable and stuff to. plus it easier to get people to the park with so many to choose from.

Amazing that the yankee have almost 20 million people to market to yet they barely sold out a playoff game in their new bandbox of a stadium. pathetic... and seeing all those empty premium seats is fitting considering they decided to build a stadium to cater to businesses and executives rather than their die hard fans.
And as an aside... gator boy sucks my right one.

chip that's for the league to figure out. yankees just play within the system. much greater revenue sharing with a minimum cap to insure owners don't pocket the money and invest in the players, would be a good first step, this wouldn't limit the large market teams from a player but allow more teams to compete for that player. football shares most of it's revenue so a very small market like indy can keep a payton manning and pay the bills, and grow their value.

Being the yankee fan that I am, I can't stand the new stadium. Like it was said more of business than the real fan. It's sad but they think it will make more money. At this time where our economy is at it wasn't a smart move. Botton line to me is just win the World Series this year, thats all I really want to see. And also more pies in the face.

Thank you. I didn't think of that. You guys will be doing some wheeling & dealing this winter.
Real Do I detect some cynicism? I don't think the Yankees will be after Gonzalez.
    surf,
ARod is more relaxed and having fun. just letting his natural talent come out. What a athlete. Sabathia-what a great performance. Total domination.
