Red Sox activate Beckett, Casey, Lowell

First baseman Sean Casey, third baseman Mike Lowell and Friday night's starting pitcher Josh Beckett have officially been activated off of the disabled list, giving the Red Sox 28 players on their roster. Because we're in September and teams can activate as many as 40 players, there are no corresponding roster moves needed.

Casey (neck) has not played since Aug. 19, Lowell (right oblique) has not played since Aug. 12 and Beckett (elbow) has not pitched since Aug. 17.

Also, pitcher Bartolo Colon, as expected, will pitch tomorrow for Triple A Pawtucket at Scranton-Wilkes-Barre in Game 4 of the PawSox Internationl League playoff series.

We'll have lineups for the Red Sox and Rangers soon.

I hope Josh is ok and can go 5 effective innings. The Sox are much more dangerous in the playoffs with a healthy Josh Beckett.

    Hey Yaz,
I thought it was reported that they will limit him to 75 pitches. I hope he makes it the rest of the season. Rays should lose tonight. I stii think the are going to fold in 07 Met fashion.

I think 60 pitches for Beckett would be more like it, he hasn't pitched in some 3-4 weeks. I am not so sure about the Rays folding, but it's true they haven't faced this kind of pressure before.

sox are getting into the playoffs. they are one of the most dangerous teams in the last 8 years in the playoffs. do not dismiss them. they have only been eliminated 2 times since 2003.

Hey czheck - running manny out of town is the best thing that ever happened to them. Remember running Nomar out of town in 2004...
They won the World Series that year as he sat on his couch in Chicago.

ROFLMAO! The Red Sox were floundering with Manny and all the trouble he was causing. Fighting with teammates, fighting with an old man ( the traveling secretary) , faking injury so he didn't play in key games, even tanking at bats when he did play. And all to get out of his contract. The Red Sox are 21-9 since they got rid of Ramirez. I would say to Manny, "thanks for the memories, don't let the door hit you in the a$$.

Good call. Manny was too much of a distraction. He was like a little kid that was holding his breath until he got his way. Imagine you are at a very demanding job and you have a fellow employee that is disrupting the continuity of all the other employees. Do you shut down the job or get rid of that employee? Unfortunately, now that he has gotten away with it, he is liable to try it again if he gets a hair up his a$$. It won't be with the Yankees.

The RED SOX are seriously the hottest team in baseball right now. NO team has won as many games since 8/1 and they are scoring runs like crazy. I honestly didn't think they'd have a chance to repeat as champs but honestly if they can keep up this level of play it looks like they might prove me wrong.
    GO RED SOX!!!
