Rays adding reliever Fernando RodneyThe Tampa Bay Rays have been outshined this offseason in the free-agent signing department by their in-state rivals, the Miami Marlins, but now it appears that they will have some news of their own, though it has significantly less sparkle.

The St. Petersburg Times reports that the Rays are "close to a deal" with 34-year-old right-handed reliever Fernando Rodney. The one-year deal is for just over $2 million, the paper reports.

Rodney has only had 17 saves in the past two seasons for the Los Angeles Angels, a disappointment after he saved 37 games in 2009 for the Detroit Tigers.

Since coming to the big leagues with the Tigers in 2002, Rodney has saved 87 games, gone 22-38 and struck out 393. Last year, he appeared in only 39 games and went 3-5 with three saves and four blown saves.
