At the general manager meeting this week, some tams apparently asked if the Pittsburgh Pirates would be willing to trade catcher Ryan Doumit(notes), and it's looking like the Pirates would be OK with that, according to FOXSports. In fact, the team "would not hesitate" to do it.
The 28-year-old hit .250 last season and only had 10 homers and 38 RBI in 280 at-bats. Unfortunately, he missed a lot of games last year, which doesn't help his sale value. Whoever takes him on will owe him $3.5 million next year and $5.1 million in 2011. He could end up being moved to first base or the outfield if he is moved.
The San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, and Tampa Bay Rays are all supposedly places that Doumit could land.

i can see him starting everyday at a lot of different positions.
he has a lot of positional flexibility.
start him at outfield, first base, and he can be the backup catcher as well.

They have a rich history of getting rid of their best players. The owners are bent on losing.
Perhaps the Pirates should get sold and move to a different city. Then maybe someone could open a triple-A team there. It's obvious they don't want to even attempt to compete at the major league level.
I love the Steelers and always respected the Pirates of old. Now they're pathetic at best.

They are soft at SS, 1b/rf (wherever Jones isn't) and on the mound.
I would say the Pirates would need a MLB ready SS or big bat OF, and a plus A-AA arm to get Doumit. If not, he stays.
People forget that Tony Pena brought them back Lavalliere, Van Slyke and Mike Dunne in 1987. People whined about this then and that turned out OK.
Between the trade and the last two drafts, the Pirates have exponentially improved their team despite getting rid of their good players who haven't gotten them close to a .500 season in 12 years.
The Pirates are going in the right direction despite their lack of $$$.

The onky good outdoors sports for years to come will be up at Seven Springs. That's where the owner's are spending all of the money that they are making, and saving, on the hapless Pirates. They will notonly deal Ryan Doumet, but they will also deal Andy LaRoche.LaRoche, in an interview with KDKA, indicated that he is willing to play any other position that the team wantsfor him to play. So, that automatically opens up the door for him to be dealt.
So, it looks like we are going to have the all affirmative action team until all of the owners force the team to be sold.

Doumit will only get more in a catcher's market with pretty much 40 year olds.Mariners would be a good spot, with Kenji taking off to Japan.... and soon to be Beltre, they have no pop in their order. I don't think Russ Branyan counts. I could see the Rays going after him and splitting time with Navi, playing some at RF.... if Doumit can get 500 at bats.. he would be dangerous

"Salary caps are BS.. Look at the NFL---the cream is still at the top regardless of the cap-Pittsburgh was great before the cap and still are. The Browns were crap before the cap and still are--along with the Raiders and the Lions and the Rams...Salary caps dont really work in the long run..."
I guess Bronx is more of a baseball fan than football. Did you see how "great" the Steelers were in the 80's and middle 90's during the golden age of spending. The Steelers during that era were have been destroyed by the Niners and Cowboys of that era. That is just a fact. Without a cap, you wouldn't have seen the Steelers, Cardinals, Packers, Seahawks and Rams in the Superbowl. Also the Raider and Browns were more successful during the pre-cap era. A cap forces teams to be smart with their money. Nothing more...nothing less. No cap is perfect but the NFL probably has the best.
I am a Giants and Yankees fan. I was happy that the Yankees won and people shouldn't be rip them on the money issue because they are playing by the rules. Whether the rules are fair is pretty much depends on who your favorite team is. I think they should have a min and max cap. This would force cheap teams to put a better club out there instead of receiving money from the bigger market clubs. Also the league should contract and eliminate teams that ownership cannot afford to put a good team out there year in and year out.

Move him while you can.

The Pirates have money and were one of the top profiting teams in the MLB last season. Their game ratings were through the roof on FSN-Pittsburgh. The aquision of Iwamura was pretty big for the Pirates shows their going to start spending that money they've "saved".
They need to cut Brandon Moss or get something for him but unfortunatley his trade value is a pack of Trident Layers, which unless were dealing him to a small asian electric company isn't going to get us jack.
I think that Jones(RF) McCutchen (CF) D Young (LF) LaRoche (3B) Cedeneo (SS) Iwamura (2B) Clement (1B) and Jaramillo (C) isn't that bad of a line up.
Need some more power though.

STOP ATTENDING THE GAMES! That is the only way to hurt the ownership! You can come and watch the HS baseball team I coach and I will light fireworks in my back yard for you...free. It's the same quality of players and cheaper. There will be as many people there too.
