Philadelphia Phillies third baseman Placido Polanco's(notes) bulging disks in his back are getting better and he hopes to go on a rehab assignment in the middle of this week, MLB.com reports.

A member of the team who knows he's heading to a rehab assignment this week is pitcher Roy Oswalt(notes), who has been on the DL since June 24. He will head to the team's Triple-A affiliate, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, to start Wednesday's game against the Pawtucket Red Sox, the site reports. Oswalt had a second successful session in the bullpen Sunday and "hopes he only needs one rehab outing" before becoming a part of the Phils' rotation again, the site notes.

Polanco "received an epidural injection" on Thursday and "took about 40 swings in the batting cage" Sunday, MLB.com reports.
