Rumors about Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Joe Blanton(notes) getting traded started as soon as Cliff Lee(notes) signed his deal with the team. But then the Phils kept insisting that Blanton (along with the remaining two years and $17 million on his contract) was staying. Roy Halladay(notes), Roy Oswalt(notes), Cole Hamels(notes) and Lee have even gotten into the act by making sure Blanton is a part of any interviews or photos that involve the other four.

Now that the St. Louis Cardinals have lost ace Adam Wainwright(notes) for the season to Tommy John surgery, Blanton's name has suddenly popped up as a possible target for St. Louis, MLB.com reports.

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. assured fans that Blanton will be in a Phils uniform when April rolls around, according to the site.
