For the last four months, Andy Pettitte has blamed no one but himself for his performance-enhancing troubles.

Friday night, the Yankee lefty said the media sensationalized his tumultuous winter when he was named in the Mitchell Report, admitted his own human growth hormone use as well as his dad's, and had to finger his friend and former teammate Roger Clemens as an HGH user the New York Daily News reported.

"The whole thing was horrible for my kids, the way the media portrayed it," Pettitte said. "It was so magnified. It was obviously a big deal, but it almost did more damage than it did good, the way it was so, I thought, sensationalized."

andy needs to pipe down,he used the media when he wanted to speak the truth, dont go blaming them now for sensationalising anything.he cheated he was the 1 who came out and admitted it once he found out he would be on the mitchell report.if anything andy you should have learned from your best buddy roger that maybe keeping your mouth shut would be the best thing to do.funny now you dont hear a thing from roger or his motor mouth lawyers.please andy while you still have some dignity and the fans supporting you, do not make excuses or make comments like this, you said in spring training news conference which by the way you asked the media to attend that this was a 1 time statement and that you are now concentrating on baseball.

I like Pettitte but while the media may make players look bad in certain instances, if you don't take the HGH in the first place, the media has nothing on you. As bad as the media was with him, if he didn't do it, then it would have never been an issue.

Sorry Andy, the children of people who engage in illegal activity and are caught often suffer. But they are the victims of their parents, i.e., you in this case, and not the media. And the idea that the media attention might have made it do more damage than good is pathetic and absurd.

Andy Pettitte is a good guy who made a mistake for a very brief period of time. I am a Red Sox fan who is quite willing to cut the guy a break. The focus needs to be on the present and future with routine testing and harsh penalties for violators.

I agree with Pettitte getting a break, although he probably should realize the less said about his mistake the better. It's a shame that the new MLB-MLBPA deal cuts so many people a break who don't deserve one. But the two dirty old pimps--Selig and Fehr--need a darn big rug to sweep all of their misdeeds under.

yaz ok u cut him a break but just as this whole hgh/roid thing has simmered down which is obviously controlled by the media too,he has to add fuel to it by opening his mouth and blame the media,he was the 1 who got caught his family should be blaming him,not the media for all the exposure and media hype it got

Ken, I hear ya, but you know when a player has kids like Pettitte they get unfairly ridiculed by classmates.Andy came clean about his use of HGH. I can't put him into the Canseco, Bonds, Clemens category. But you are right, the less said the better.

well pettite lived by the sword and will die by it too, or syringe i should say, when your a big time player you need to realize you do something stupid your going to put family, kids friends etc i tough spots,i totally disagree with giving these cheaters a reprieve now that selig backed down and fehr looks good, selig said he was going to take it case by case basis, yeah how much each player paid him off case by case, lol

Short attention span america, read the whole article, read more about Petitte, then make your judgements if you must. Read past the headlines.

Even Mitchell recommended that the report not be used to punish players who were named unless extraordinary conditions were present. Harpooning a good guy like Andy Pettitte serves no purpose. The focus should now be on testing and punishing violators. MLB needs to take some of the responsibility for looking the other way while some players cheated.

mmm read the article and past the article and even between the lines, needed my speacial glasses for that, and i still see andy blaming the dmedia for making it hard on his kids and it did more harm than good, i see a man who used his deep religous beliefs to come across as this self rightous man, well then he should have not used hgh, he should have come clean before this came out not after, you do something to put your family in a tough spot its nobodys fault but your own

Ken, if you read the article and are judging the man based on that, that certainly is your perogative. Just be careful of passing judgements on media reports, especially from the NY Daily News.

Flat out your a cheater Andy. Instead of blaming the media blame yourself. You only came out after getting caught if you didn't get caught you would have taken to your grave as a cheater. Be a man Andy and talk your buddy Clemens into coming clean.

jd im not basing my opinion of andy just on this article but i think the mans a hippocrite,he says things like he will have to answer to god and how god has a path for him,did god inject the hgh?did god make his dad go get hgh? typical people who use religion for what goes on in their lives,he says this is good and he is at the forefront of the steroid thing,no he isnt he got caught, you know darn well if he didnt get caught ,he wouldnt be out there preaching to kids how roids.hgh are wrong for them, now he is patting himself on the back for coming clean for talking to kids etc.as a met fan there are a few yankees i liked and respected and andy was 1 of them, along with jeter, mattingly, bernie but alot of people who get caught doing something wrong tend to come out and blame everyone else for it.

Ken, why trash Andy's faith? It was his faith that impelled Andy to tell the truth. I do believe that we have to distinguish between isolated uses of HGH and continuing steroid use for at least 3 reasons: 1) Steroids alter disposition and make people more dangerous; 2) Steroids can have a lasting improvement on performance, whereas HGH only speeds healing, if that; and 3) Steroids use is a felony and was always against baseball rules, whereas HGH is either a misdemeanor or actually legal and was not against baseball rules at the time Andy used it.

i"m a sock fan but, most inportantlya baseball fan.i love the way andy plays baseball, and the way he acts on the field with class as a gentelman.i feel pain for him because i also have made mistakes in life as well as everyone else , he's made his 1st step in the right direction by admiting his mistake.his family will respect him for being up front and not takeing the easy way out, personaly i feel he's paid for his mistake by public shame on him self and family the exposure he suffers with the public is hard heart breaking.how would we feel if he was our team player? i say it's time to cut him some slack on this thing. now back to baseball go red sock beat them yanks!!!!!
