Pavano: 'I'm not here to make amends'

Carl Pavano knows that his New York Yankees' tenure has been one long running joke.

But when he takes the mound Saturday night at Camden Yards, the oft-injured righthander won't be thinking about making good on the past three-plus years, only about getting the Yankees one step closer to the playoffs.

"I'm not here to make amends, I'm here to do my job and that's to win ballgames," Pavano said yesterday, having joined the Yankees in Baltimore the day before his start. "That's what I'd like to have been doing the last three years, but it hasn't worked out that way. To put my energy into thinking about the past and worrying about what's gone on, it does me no good and it does the team no good."

Pavano's lengthy injury list since he signed with the Yankees before the 2005 season includes two elbow surgeries, two shoulder problems and various injuries to his back, rib and buttocks.

everyone has to remember, he did not try to get hurt. He is a pro baseball player for a great organization. It would have been in his best interest to have played and done well. He then could have gotten another contract with a possibility of a raise. As it stands now he is considered damaged goods and has to prove himself all over again.
    Guys
Check out the Abreu board. Yahoo has taken out all the fakers posts!!!!!!

Pavano did not try to get hurt...he was not always honest with the organization, but he tried and I wish him well...Maybe the Yankees and other teams will learn a lesson from all of this, maybe NOT! He has to prove himself all over again and that will take some doing considering what he was paid and how he under performed...

hi dav good to hear yahoo is spending some time on its clients ! jmayall he really didn t underperform , he just couldn t perform because of injury , I m sure he would have loved to pitch up to potential for hte yankees and could be alot richer now. and what leeson is to be learned it could happen to any player. remember Don Gullett.? It would be better for owners and players to go with 2 year contracts for pitchers and 3 for position players. No one would be locked in too long. and there would be less, players trying to renegociate with a few years left on the contract they agreed to at the start.

the yankee's need to start building a better team for next year. and it all starts with Pitching. they better find out what they have, because they started out this year thinking they had more than they did. I think they need a new GM. after watching the yankee's for the past 58 years, give me the job for $1 per year , I'll get them WS # 27.

One dollar a year? So, for ten bucks a year, would you be able to oversee the contraction of a dozen teams, too? :-p

Pavano may have not tried to get hurt but it but he obviously wasn't working extremely hard to get better or take care of himself either. Why would Mussina and other players call him out if there wasn't something else going on. You can put him on the top of the list of horrible pitchers that Cashman has graced this team with over the last 8 years. And right there is why the Yankees haven't won the Series since 2000 despite having a 200 million dollar payroll. The Yankees may get back to the post season next year but you can count on not even making it to the World Series for years to come if things don't change in the starting rotation. HORRIBLE!!! Sure makes me appreciate Cone, Wells, Pettitte, El Duque, Clemens, Key, etc. etc. of the late 90's a lot more!!!!

Pavano sucks, He has one good season and then all of a sudden he gets a multi year contract.
Thats what the Yankees get for throwing around their money.
I said he was a bust before and right after he signed the contract he would suck even more.
If anything the Yankees can blame it on injuries because if he was healthy then they would have even more ticked off fans.
