Baltimore Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts admitted Monday that he used steroids "once," in 2003, but said he hasn't used them or any other performance-enhancing drugs since the Baltimore Sun reported.

"I will begin by saying that I have worked very hard to develop a good reputation both on and off the field. I have always taken pride in being a man of integrity and values. I know that by being a professional athlete, I am held to a very high standard. I never have and never will take that for granted. However, I am also human and I have made mistakes.

"In 2003, when I took one shot of steroids, I immediately realized that this was not what I stood for or anything that I wanted to continue doing. I never used steroids, human growth hormone or any other performance-enhancing drugs prior to or since that single incident.  I am very sorry and I deeply regret ever making that terrible decision. My only hope and prayer is that the Orioles, my family, friends and fans that have supported me so faithfully will forgive me."

I'm tired of steroid and HGH talk. I don't care about the Mitchel report. Hell, I don't care about baseball anymore.

Oh, and killing just one person is okay too and as long as you realize you made a mistake and promise to never do it again you'll be fine. I say PUNISH them all.

we didnt need him to admit it after the mitchell report, even his stas yell out " I USED STEROIDS". Between 01-04 he hit 11 Home runs, but once he took steroids in 2005 and further more... he hit 18 homeruns in 2005, 10 in 06 and 12 last year.....the numbers dont lie....i was a fan of roberts, now i know it wasnt hard work that got him the homeruns, it was the beinding over and taking it up the arse, now i hope the mlb gives it to him harder....

Check out his career stats. If he got that blip by only shooting up "once", then I wonder what his stats would have been if he was a regular user.

This upsets me the most. Of all the players named, I doubted Robert's name's validity the most. I am a big Brian Roberts fan and now he will be forever tainted in my mind. If Roberts took them, they all (on the report) did.

you people are all overreacting to this. the home run increase was in 2005. he took steroids ONCE in 2003. that had absolutely nothing to do with the stat increases. plus, Roberts is not a big guy, so don't say that it's obvious that he was taking steroids. I believe that he only tried it once.

Baseball is entertainment. I enjoy watching it. I still will enjoy going to see BRob play, as well as any others involved.

I just love it when the smug, holier than thou born again ballplayers get caught cheating. Every time they thank God for their success, or a pinch single for that matter, perhaps they should acknowledge HGH and their pusher instead.

I saw Brian Roberts in college and I have never seen an individual work as hard as he did. I never saw anything that would make me believe he ever used anything illegal to enhance his game. He worked tiredlessly after practice, often taking hundreds of swings in the batting cage. He didn't concern himself with anything but working hard and helping the team to win. I am saddened to see him come forward and admit he used steriods but I can forgive him. I can't wait to see you put up all star numbers this year to silence the critics.

I think, a lot of times, the hardest workers are most tempted by roids. They are driven to be the best, and see steroids, not as an escape from hard work, but as a way to make their hard work pay off even more. Clemens worked out all the time, same with Jason Giambi.

maybe we should create a new franchise and put all the players on the mitchell report on it...and see how good the steroid users would do against the clean players.eg. " Starting at designated steroid user (DH) Barry Bonds!" "And on the mound the one, the only big dissapointment in this report, Roger "stick it in my butt" Clemons.!" i believe clemons lost his rocket stature for that siringe.

B Rob does more for the Baltimore community than any other player on the team. I have made mistakes in my life, was punished, and forgiven. He deserves a second chance! I will still love B Rob!

Randy Moss, you have to stop trying to see everything in black and white. There are no good guys and bad guys in this, just a national pastime that got very sick and ate up a whole lot of good people. Brian Roberts is a kind, caring man who forgives others who trespass against him, even Larry Bigbie who got his name involved in this whole mess and all over one brief moment of weakness. He made a mistake a few years ago. So did I. So did you. Get over it and start worrying about the things you've done wrong in your own life before you get so outraged about what goes on in a game.

People with the contacts, stop it already, you're not helping. Brian Roberts has never said the contact lenses made him a better hitter. They are only for day games anyway. The company making them used him as advertising because he was one of their testers and had a lot of success. He has never attributed his success to anything other than hard work and good fortune.
