Nationals ditching interim GM Rizzo

“StephenMike Rizzo had had a short, productive run as the interim GM for the Washington Nationals, but it appears to be ending soon, according to Yahoo! Sports. He's apparently about to be replaced by Jerry DiPoto, a Diamondbacks vice president who has been in charge of their scouting for four years.

In his brief time in the GM chair, Rizzo got to spend lots of time with loveable agent Scott Boras as the pair negotiates the largest rookie contract of all time with the signing of pitching phenom Stephen Strasburg(notes), who won't be coming to the majors till next year, according to USA Today. He also snagged Nyjer Morgan(notes) from the Pittsburgh Pirates and got to be the lucky one to fire manager Manny Acta.

DiPota also collected 49 saves over seven seasons when he pitched for the New York Mets, Colorado Rockies, and Cleveland Indians. Now let's see if he can save the Nationals.

hey my mets have a gm you can have and we will even send ollie perez with him. how do you fire an interim gm when you have an owner and ream that just isnt that good. hope strasburg can win you 40 games extra each season somehow because unless you get better players,he wont make a huge difference in the standings for you.

#2 The Nats are trying there best to rebuild and compete soon but it will take alot more than zimmerman, strasburg and maybe harper. To be a good ball club u need more than 3 stars u need people to compliment them.

#2, we don't want minaya back. he was the one that traded away grady sizemore, cliff lee, brandon phillips and others while the nats were in montreal. by all means, he sucks; and that is reason enough for not wishing he comes to the nats.
by the way, i do feel sorry for the mets, as they are about to endure the same losing seasons streak as the nats/expos, as minaya always wants to win now at all costs - vs win now, while planning for the future. he'll probably re-up everyone's contract like delgado's when it's their time and they are 40. not the smartest move in building for the future.

i am glad to see rizzo go. he got rid of too many people in the bullpen that shouldn't have left (shell, hinckley, ledezma) and kept people around for too long that should have left at the beginning of the season (tavarez). and he traded away anderson hernandez, who is more talented than gonzo both offensively and defensively. and i am sure another gm probably could have gotten more players in exchange for nick johnson, instead of receiving one minor league pitcher for one of the top first basemen in baseball.

You can win in baseball with two or three top pitchers and two big bats so with Strasburg and Zimmerman they got a good start as long as they can keep them. At least now if they do have to deal for multiple talents they got players that the big market clubs want.

Let me get this straight, they kept him just long enough to negotiate Strasburg's contract with Boras, who he knows well and then dumped him? Nice, class act, but what else would you expect from idiot owners and clueless management. I'm not a fan of the "Natinals" but i feel sorry for anyone who is.
