When the season started, Brett Myers(notes) was the Opening Day starter and the highest-paid pitcher on the Philadelphia Phillies' roster. Heck, his $12 million salary was more than Chase Utley(notes) was getting. Now he's not on the roster for the National League Championship Series and he's upset about it, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
He had hip surgery back in early June and wasn't expected to return this season at all but he worked pretty hard to get back. Phillies fans were hoping his arrival would help solve the team's massive bullpen problems at the time. Instead, the 29-year-old had a 6.43 ERA in eight games. He followed that up with pitching 2/3s of an inning in the Colorado series and issuing two walks in the process.
Now it's not even clear if Myers will be back with the Phillies next year. Manager Charlie Manuel says he sees Myers as being in spring training right now. And unfortunately for him, the rest of the team is much further down the path right about now.

Honestly? Is this really shocking to anyone?Did these journalists think he'd say "ho hum,no big deal,I worked extremely hard to get back to the roster and they'd rather have Eric Bruntlett to run."?

I like Ron Washington a lot. He might get the nod for AL Manager of the Year. That could be a close vote, as Don Wakamatsu, Ron Gardenhire, Joe Girardi, and Mike Soscia all had great years.

His whole ugly domestic incident aside (which I realize is a big incident), the guy has said and done all the right things for the organization over the years. I'd hate to see him leave the club on a sour note, but hearts are for your family. Brains and balls are for business and this is business.
