The New York Mets are apparently very close to bringing first baseman Mike Jacobs(notes) back to where he started out his career, according to ESPN.

Jacobs, a lefty bat, is supposedly going to sign a minor-league deal with the team. He would basically get invited to spring training with no guarantee of a job into the season. After all, the 29-year-old struck out 132 times in 434 at-bats last year for the Kansas City Royals. He did have 19 homers, though.

Jacobs isn't known for his stellar glove and doesn't hit well against left-handers. Still, the Mets need some help and are going to go ahead and give the guy who debuted with them in 2005 a shot.
