The New York Mets Tuesday signed free agent right-handed pitcher Matt Wise to a one-year contract the New York Post reported.

Wise, 32, went 3-2 with one save and a 4.19 ERA in a career-high 56 games last year for Milwaukee. In 53 2/3 innings, the 6-4, 200-pounder allowed 61 hits, 30 runs, with 17 walks and 43 strikeouts.

"Matt has had success in a variety of roles," Omar Minaya said. "He adds a versatile arm to the bullpen."

I disagree, Matt Wise I believe will do nothing but help the Mets weak bullpen, and I see this as a very good signing.

It's a good signing. The Mets are still the team to beat in the NL east. Add on the fact that they had that bitter taste in their mouths all winter long and they'll be that much tougher to beat. Sorry, Phillies fan, its going to be Mets and Braves down to the wire in 2008.

At last the Mets have made a major splash in the free agent market. I just have one question; Matt who?

Wise has two pitches. Fastball and change-up, the latter being his "specialty". I hate to say it, but when he was pitching for the Brew Crew he would all-too-often leave that change hanging up in the strike zone, which of course leads to nothing but disaster. Best of luck to Wise, but I feel bad for the Mets and their fans. I hope he can turn it around for ya'.

Not really a 'very good' signing, but an acceptable one. He can't do much worse in our bullpen than Aaron Sele did.

have fun in mets fans, wise came back and did nothing but lose games here in milwaukee after he hit that guy in the bean. he never got over it, why do you think they signed and traded for three more closers/ relief pitcher and had no problem leting him go. also those braves in 08??? come on who are we kidding!! watch out for the brewers. (weeks, hardy, braun who had 35 homeruns and 99 rbis in half a season.,fielder, hart, hall) to name a few.

#15, Braun was up in the majors by june, which is much more than half a season. the only other bat in the lineup to fear is fiedler. more importantly, the Mets dominated the Brewers last season and the Brewers have only gotten weaker with fransico darting for more $ and less saves with the Reds.
overall, WIse replaces Mota and improves the bullpen and isn't long term like the schoewiess deal (2 more years, ugggg), and considering how weak the market is, this was a good move.

I admit, i never heard of the name Matt Wise, but what the hell: he can only help. Our bullpen was already below par, and any pick up is sure to help. Can't wait to see him in action.
And Met fans, we get Dauner back as well, hopefully we have a bullpen that can actually get through an inning
