The concern is the current starting rotation will not throw enough innings to keep the bullpen from being overworked. With that in mind, the Mets are rumored to be looking at starters like free agent Carlos Silva, from the Minnesota Twins, or former Arizona Diamondback, Livan Hernandez.
Silva threw 202 innings last season while going 13-14 with a 4.19 ERA. Hernandez, El Duque's half-brother, is the ultimate innings-eater. He's the only pitcher in the majors to have reached 200 innings each season since 2000. But while agent Greg Genske expected dialogue to continue, Mets insiders downplay Hernandez.
