MLB - Sports Rumors

“HanleyFlorida Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez(notes) hasn't played for the Boston Red Sox since 2005 when he had two at-bats over two games. the team apparently wants the All-Star back now, according to the New York Daily News.

Boston let shortstop Alex Gonzalez go and isn't ready to depend on Jed Lowrie(notes) as a full-time infielder just yet so the team is trying to wrest Ramirez from his current place of employment.

It must've burned Boston up when Ramirez won Rookie of the Year in 2006 with the Marlins although the Red Sox got Josh Beckett(notes), Mike Lowell(notes), and Guillermo Mota(notes) in the transaction. Not too shabby a group.

Wonder if the folks in Boston will enjoy Ramirez's habit of sticking pies in teammates' faces after big wins as much as the folks in Florida do.

This rumor has to die! I'm well aware of how well Hanley has played over the past 4 years, and I also know about the Marlins tendencies of stripping their team every 5-6 years, but this is not going to happen. The Marlins signed him to a long term deal a couple years ago, and it would cost the whole farm to get him. Given those variables, just sign someone else, like Scutaro, because there is no chance Hanley is coming back to Boston.

Giving up Hanley given the great bargain they signed him for doesn't make sense even for the frugal Marlins. If the Marlins were to put everybody on the team on the chopping block, Hanley is not going anywhere anytime soon. Maybe towards the end of his contract will they consider trading him knowing that they will not be able to re-sign him. But for now, articles such as these make no sense.
These writers need to focus on real stories instead of fabricating and fueling such rumors.

I doubt the Sox were too "burned up" about ROY when Beckett and "throw in" Mike Lowell helped them win the World Series in 2007.

Maybe the pies in the face act is getting old in Flordia. No matter how much of a bargain Hanley is, its time to go. Let Boston deal with this clown for awhile.

How would you like it, BronxFinest, if Derek Jeter smashed a pie in your face, everytime you made a brilliant response on the rumor page?
I bet you would trade Jeter off your "Fantasy Team" in a heartbeat!

He is a very talented clown and the cost will be high. There must be some substance to this or they wouldn't have let Gonzales go.

Why in the heck does anyone, including the Red Sox, even think Jed Lowrie is a viable solution (even when he was healthy). What, did the guys mom pay Theo or something off? I am so sick about hearing about Lowrie. He has extremely little upside and we've seen most of that already. People talk about him like he could be in the upper tier.......he is at best the bottom 20% of a SS's. I mean have people even seen this guy play in Pawtuckett? Man.

the pie in the face is becoming an old habit. it was good when it happened once in a while but now that hanley and burnett do it everyday, its lost most of its meaning.

He wants to be a Yankee because it is his life long dream to wear pinstripes. He will have to play LF because I think the Yankee have a SS.

Another NY Daily News article about the Red Sox, maybe they should worry about the NY teams, instead of panicking about the Sox and Phils. Unless, it just a way to excuse a big signing by a NY team. "the Yanks had to sign or trade for so and so. There was a rumor HAnley was close to going back to the Sox. Yes we started it, but thats besides the point."

Why would his numbers be any worse in the AL east? If anything they would be better because the Red Sox lineup is amazing compared the the marlins, where he basically was the team. dumbass

I hope the Sox give up the farm for him. He is the best all around player in the game right now, is about 25 years old, plays SS, and is signed to one of the best bargains in the game for the next 5 years. I dont know why the Marlins would want to get rid of him but I would pretty much give them whatever they wanted. Bucholhz, Bowden, Casey Kelly, Lars Anderson bye to all of you and bring in H Ram.

Ok wow this is dumb. Hanley's contract is backloaded, so he's cheap and the Marlins already laughed off this idea.
