Ken Griffey Jr.(notes) wanted one more year so the Seattle Mariners gave it to him, but now he's batting .208 and hasn't hit a single homer. Not exactly what you want from your left-handed DH.
The word is that the Mariners are going to cut the 41-year-old icon from the team, perhaps within the week, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. The problem is that Griffey can't quite get himself into a condition where he can run full-out on his surgically repaired knee that needed at least two gel injections during camp.
He's apparently not staying in the dugout during games, either, and has lost some credibility as a clubhouse leader, particularly since during one game last week he was supposedly sleeping in the clubhouse, according to two teammates.
"He'd gone back (into the clubhouse) about the fifth inning to get a jacket and didn't come back," said one player. "I went back in about the seventh inning - and he was in his chair, sound asleep."
See you later, Ken.
