MLB - Scoop Du Jour

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Seattle Mariners apparently came after Jason Bay(notes) hard yesterday on the first day of baseball's winter meetings and the Boston Red Sox are apparently growing more concerned that the team will be without their big-bat, not-much-glove outfielder when 2010 rolls around, according to the Boston Herald.

The San Francisco Giants and St. Louis Cardinals are also supposedly monitoring the Bay negotiations and could jump in at some point.

If the Red Sox miss out on Bay, a large chunk of the team's energy would likely go toward snagging Matt Holliday(notes). Any way you slice it, the aggressiveness of Anaheim and Seattle is going to force Red Sox GM Theo Epstein to deal with the Bay situation in a much quicker fashion, but there's no way to know if Boston will have the right amount of dough to keep Bay in Beantown.
