Livan Hernandez returning to Nationals?

“LivanThe agent for Livan Hernandez(notes) is saying that his client wouldn't mind returning to the lowly Washington Nationals, and the team apparently has some interest, according to MLB.com.

Hernandez started off the season with the New York Mets and then got released with a 5.47 ERA and 135 innings under his belt. His ERA came down a whopping .11 when he pitched for Washington later in the year.

He does like to pitch and will stay in games, but he needs a lot of run support: In the last two years, he's pitched 363 2/3s innings and has a 5.74 ERA.

    I saw Rollie Fingers playing celebrity softball after the HR Derby a couple years ago. He still looked pretty good. Might be a good long relief option for the Nats this year.

    Livan Hernandez had some of his best years with Montreal-Washington, where twice, he won 15 games. The problem he had with the Mets, was lack of respect and lack of run support.

    Your kidding str A,Livan has pitched to the tune of 5.44 era last year.The only lack of respect was by batters on opposing teams.In 2008 his era was well over 6.00.Let's face it,he is an old 34 years old.If that is his real age?

    Str A's, what would "lack of respect" from the Mets have to do with anything? He felt unloved, so that's why teams hit .312 against him in 23 starts with the team? Everything I saw and heard, he was very well liked in the Mets clubhouse, he just couldn't pitch and became a liability to even have come out of the bullpen. Makes zero sense and is just a bad excuse, pretty much the same as lack of run support. The other 8 guys on the field don't pitch for you. Someone like Johan Santana can complain about that, how he can go 7-8 innings a start, give up 1-2 runs, and either gets a no decision way too often.

    Livan Hernandez Is Closer To 40 Years Old Than 30 . He Needs 7 - 8 Runs A Game To Compete . Stop The Nonsense About Respect . He's A Great Batting Practice Pitcher !

    Livan pitched some games, where he got bombed by a hot team and left in too long. In those situations he should have been yanked. Other games, he allowed just a few runs, and still loss. He still has stuff. Hope the Nationals use him right, and everyone is a winner.

    Why would any GM in his right mind give Hernandez even a 1 year 2 mil. contract when you can get a double A pitcher for the league minimum and get similar #'s?Doesn't make any sense.

    #19 str A's hooter - The Gong show had "stuff".........Livan has an arm. He doesn't have the talent, mental fortitude, desire, or focus to be a weapon for any team serious about contention. That's the problem with MLB, it's has too much old trash and not enough young talent. Seems to me as long as there isn't a salary cap, the DH position allows1 dimensional fossils to remain on many rosters. Add to the fact that the Yankees simply buy any player who's a worthwhile free agent, and anyone can see why these overweight, highly non-athletic, fossils can continue to exist in MLB.

    i have painfully watch levan pitch for the last 3 years. the nationals are probably not the team for him. he would be most suited with a team that had 8 golden glove winners in the field behind him to catch the rockets as they leave the bat.
