San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson(notes) ended last season as a hero on the World Series-winning squad. This season, it looks like he'll have to wait a bit to try and resume his heroics.
There is "significant doubt" that Wilson will be ready to go on opening day, according to the San Jose Mercury News. Wilson strained his right oblique a week ago and didn't throw a ball till Wednesday when his session got cut short after eight minutes.
Wilson said that he'd do whatever the team wants him to do: "I'm an employee. I'm not an investor," Wilson said, the paper reports. "They do what's necessary, and I follow orders. There might be disagreement, but whatever they feel is necessary has to be right. I'll agree with whatever they want to do. I don't own teams. I throw a baseball. If they say, come game time, that I'm not ready, then I don't have the right to argue. That would do no good."
