After the non-waiver trade deadline passed, the Kansas City Royals designated Jose Guillen for assignment. It then became known that the San Francisco Giants were in discussions with the team about a deal for the 34-year-old outfielder.
While the talks aren't dead, the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that they aren't moving forward too rapidly.
Guillen is due close to $4 million before the season ends. He is batting .255 with 16 homers this year.
His tradeability was not helped last week when Sports Illustrated found an anonymous executive who said that "no contender" should go after Guillen because his "personality/clubhouse rep may be second worst to Milton Bradley(notes)."
UPDATE: The Dodgers have a strong interest in Guillen in a part-time role, according to a Tweet from ESPN's Enrique Rojas.
