San Francisco Giants second baseman Freddy Garcia(notes) had a shoulder "procedure" late in December and had a torn meniscus repaired in his knee in September. It appears he will be spending Opening Day on the disabled list, according to the San Jose Mercury News.
Sanchez, who signed a two-year deal with the Giants in October after being traded to the team by the Pittsburgh Pirates in July, isn't even expected to lift a bat for another week. The Giants are in no rush with him and are expected to start Juan Uribe(notes) at second base when the season gets under way.
Uribe isn't so bad. He had 16 homers and 55 RBIs last year.
