The San Francisco Giants lead the National League wild-card race and are only 2 1/2 games behind the San Diego Padres in the National League West. Like other teams, the Giants are hoping to improve themselves before the Saturday afternoon non-waiver trading deadline, and are seeking a solid hitter and a reliever.
The team had been talking to the Milwaukee Brewers about what it would take to obtain Corey Hart or Prince Fielder(notes), but the San Francisco Chronicle reports that those talks are "dead in the water."
Hart has hurt his right wrist so any team's interest in him has likely hit a minor bump until he can step into a batter's box and show what he can do again.
