The Cleveland Indians want to get over its losing ways so it has shown interest in bringing former Washington Nationals manager Manny Acta, who has a 132-198 managerial record, onboard to take over the manager's spot. Well, at least he got an interview in the process to replace Eric Wedge.
He apparently had a phone conversation with Indians GM Mark Shapiro earlier this week. He'll talk to the Houston Astros tomorrow about their open managerial slot as well. "I'm excited and honored to be part of this process," Acta told the paper. He says he thinks will be "very exciting in Cleveland very soon."
Guess once you're a manager somewhere, you're automatically on the list everywhere else.

Showalter WAS with the Indians not too long ago in the front office.....and talked Shapiro into giving Dellucci a 3rd year on his deal......
He's not the manager for this team.
To be honest, I'd rather have Acta than those two mentioned. I doubt it will be Acta though. Tribe conducted as many as 15 phone interviews. If he gets a sitdown interview, THEN you can start talking about it (as only 3-5 guys will get those).
I'm just glad John Farrell doesn't want to come to Cleveland...Thank God. Terrible managerial candidate imo.

1. Don Mattingly 2. Brad Mills 3. Manny Acta ....
I would think bringing in Jaramillo would be a priority as well...
Would also like to see Fryman move up and bringing in Sandy Alomar and Omar in some type of coaching capacity...
If we go with Lovullo or whoever that scrub is in AAA it will be hard to get behind this team...
P.S.
I hate you Dolan...!!!

Just because a manager can take a team of veterans or all stars to the playoffs, doesn't mean he can direct 20 year olds to the same record. Managers will call the same game from the dugout and it comes down to the players if he is seen as a genius or idiot on the bench. If Acta fails and the team finishes last again in 2010, then judge him as a failure and he needs replaced. Cleveland isn't Washington, where no name rookies were the lineup every night. They have players that can win it all, if the right manager knows how to use them to his advantage. If Acta can have rookies overachieving every game all year, even though they lose, he can do the same with a lineup that was picked to finish first this year and perhaps succeed in accomplishing that goal.
