Flordia deal for Capellan doubtful

The Florida Marlins are among the teams that have expressed interest in Milwaukee Brewers' right-handed reliever Jose Capellan.

A deal is doubtful because the Brewers want "something big in return," according to a source who has spoken to both clubs.

Capellan requested a trade when the Brewers demoted him in their final round of spring training cuts.

I wish I could find out who was the first guy to pitch a fit and demand a trade when faced with a small setback. Capellan still plays pro baseball, is still paid very well, and is obviously at the top of the list to be called up if needed. Clearly he is following the example set by everyone else in sports whose career doesn't follow the path they dreamed about as a kid. What if this worked for other professions?? I'm teaching at a small backwoods college - maybe I should throw a fit, get all grumpy for two weeks, and demand my university trade me to Harvard or Stanford? How does that sound?

Mitch, go ahead and try it.
Anyway, this seems like an ideal trade - Capellan (and prospects) for Lieber - Phils need bullpen help, and have an extra starter - and Lieber is better than 2 of their 5 in Milwaukee.

He is still only an average middle reliever. What is the big deal about him. He stats show nothing much. potential only takes you so far.

I'm still trying to figure out which "2 of 5" Lieber is better than in Milwaukee. Surely not Sheets, Capuano, Suppan, Bush, or Vargas ...

agree with maacow... give him to Florida along with ryan braun for Cabrera. Florida would never do this but if crew got Cabrera they might win 3 or 4 straight world series :) :) :) Brewers Own!!!

nothing can help either of these teams? Brewers are right on the verge of being playoff bound. Some ESPN analysts picked them to win the NL Central this year. What are you, an elite yankee or red sox fan?

They'll be lucky if they can finish ahead of the last place Cards, Reds or Pirates? Hmmm.. Guess I havent watched them to much this year... Where are they currently sitting??? Haha! Look they are far crom the Yanks or Bo Sox but they are young and amazing to watch. I've watched Cap pitch and he does have potential and is good in stretches but it seems easy for any team to get into his head. They should trade him and Gross for Willingham.. I could never see the Crew dealing Braun anytime soon. He has super upside and just needs to work on the leather in the hot corner. As for the other comment about Lieber... Is washed up.... plain and simple........... Besides remember these names Yovani Gallardo and Tim Dillard. That right there is the Future Aces for the Crew. They will be in the bigs at some point this year along with Braun who in 39 at bats is batting .333 5hr and 10 rbi's

Your showing your baseball ignorance fenceguy. First, you can't put the Cards and Pirates in the same boat. Second if the Brewers finish above the Cards this year, they would be doing pretty well. Seeing how the cards, oh I don't know, are the "DEFENDING WORLD CHAMPS!" The Brewers are better than you think. It's time to take another look.

How do three teams finish in last place? You obviously don't know much about these two teams since Florida has won a couple World series titles and Milwaukee has one of the best rotations in baseball and not surprisingly is in first place in the division at the moment.

Hate to break it to you #10, but the Brewers the past few years have been considered a playoff bound team. The one variable that always nails the Brewers is injuries. If they can stay healthy, they will be competitive come October and you will be eating your words.

Many publications, including writers for Baseball America and ESPN have Milwaukee winning the entire NL. Say what you want, but the Brewers are a legit contender this season with a solid offense, a deep bench of veterens, 5 MLB proven starters and a bullpen with 2 all-star caliber closers. Milwaukee COULD blow the other teams out of contention early in the central if they remain healthy. Winning the NL is tough but the central is milwaukee's to lose.

Fenceguy's argument seems to be that since the Brewers haven't won the WS recently that proves that they can't. Sounds like flawed logic from a Cubs fan to me...

I'm totally a Brewers fan but the realization is that they are a playoff team at best. As the season goes on and the team shows me more then I will push for them farther in the playoffs but as of now Im pulling just to get in. The problem has been injuries and its been year after year. I do believe the Brewers are very underrated and have a lot to prove. You'd have to be on crack to state that the Brewers are a last place team ( Example : #10's statements). I know we have our favorites teams but lets look at this from an overall purspective.

Who thinks the crew will bring up Braun in the near future for that " lacking offense" ??? or is it just me....
Cincy will have a mid season melt down that will last until the end of the season and will have them watching to playoffs from home.... i speak the truth so just accept it

Lack of depth is the one thing that might stop the Brewers from having a shot at the playoffs. But that is a problem that most teams have.
I think Braun will see action this season. Hopefully as an added weapon, rather than a hopeful slump buster.

The Brewers are definatly capable of just about anything...the real test comes (as it does for any team) down the stretch. Can they hold it together for a whole season? Recent history says no way, but then again they have the best team they've had since Yount and Molitor were playing.
As far as Capellan is concerned....cry me a river. That guy is shaky at best. Wasn't his ERA last fall in double digits? He showed up to spring training fat and out of shape. The Brewers bullpen is pitching well right now and he obviously couldn't cut it. And the fact that nobody is really interested in him is telling.

And comparing the Brewers of the past two seasons to this year's team doesn't make sense either. Weeks, Fielder and Hardy are going to be far better as third-year pros than they were as rookies. The rotation is one of the deepest (remember Villaneuva makes for a very good sixth in case someone goes down) and the offense is far better than fenceguy thinks. It's time to tune into something other than East Coast baseball, my friend.
