Rumor has it that free-agent reliever Darren Oliver(notes) is about to become a member of the Texas Rangers, according to ESPN. This will be Oliver's third stint with the team.
The Rangers have supposedly been talking to Oliver's reps since the Winter Meetings at the start of December and are now about to snag a 39-year-old lefty who had 65 strikeouts in 73 innings last year when he pitched for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Oliver also had a 2.71 ERA and 1.14 WHIP.
He previously spent time with the Rangers from 1993-1998 and from 2000-2001.
For those of you keeping score at home, Oliver's dad, Bob Oliver, was also a major leaguer.
