Cubs' Zambrano considers himself lazy

“CarlosThe Chicago Cubs are five games out in the National League Central and 3.5 back in the wild-card chase so they need all the help they can get.

Pitcher Carlos Zambrano(notes) may be close to trying to help them out. He's apparently scheduled to pitch Aug. 25 against the Washington Nationals after he gets a rehab start to keep getting his aching back in order. He's been suffering from back spasms since Aug. 1 and apparently has had a bulging disc for years that has caused the 28-year-old agony.

The Big Z is apparently blaming himself for not doing workouts between starts. The 6'5", 255 pounder says his problem is that "I've been lazy." Doctors want him to do abdominal exercises in order to help strengthen his back but Zambrano has apparently decided not to do them so much.

He claims that he will get serious now. The Cubs sure hope so.

"In related news, Milton Bradley and Alfonso Soriano will continue to be drains on the Cubs defense."

for the millions these guys get paid laziness should be nonexistant, i mean really, your paid to play a SPORT and stay in shape, thats all...sure, there is a little p.r but regardless, for the money these clowns make laziness should never be an issue, they need to remember the blessing they have to be able to play.

Hey #2, get some current news. Milton Bradley has been hitting very well the last 3 weeks or so. Since Piniella moved him to the 2nd hole, Bradley has been on fire.

#2.... okay, I'll give you sori.... his defense sucks to say the least.... as for Bradly.... yes, I do remember the throwing the ball in the stands with 2 outs, but have you seen some of the catches he's made the past couple weeks??? Just curious, you wouldn't happen to be a Cards or Sox fan would ya?
As for the story itself... okay so he admitted it... big deal. If he just admits it and does nothing about it, who cares. If he admits it and does something about it, then Great..... I'm happy. You have to admit your mistakes before you can do anything about them (isn't that right Geo???).
A lot of people do not like Z and all I can say is whatever... he's a part of this team, and like him or not, we need for him to be on the mound and pitch like he can.

#5.... Aren't you a yanks fan?? I think I remember "evil empire" being a yanks fan, but I could be wrong. If so, why are you even commenting on a Cubs story that has nothing to do with the Yanks or even the AL?? I'm not slamming, just asking.

I have often wondered why all these players, come up with injuries on a daily basis nowdays ? With multi-million dollar facilities to work out in, at their convenience ? Why don't the owners make it manditory for these multi-million dollar, primma-dona players to work out and stay in shape ? Maybe even have a coach, stand over them and make sure that they, work out ? After all the money the owners pay these players nowdays, just looks to me like, working out and staying in shape for the season, would be in the contract and enforced ?

Avs back to glory, because he's a baseball fan. I'm a Yankees fan too and I comment on all baseball news. As for Zambrano, with the injuries and all the bad games, it's pretty surprising he is still as good as he is. Sometimes.

    Hey Artist,
They showed they are human after all. It is a good time to start another winning streak. Zambrano will eat (and drink) his way out of baseball in the next 2 years. Of course he has plenty of company. Not slamming. Just stating a fact.

He looks lazy so its really not a surprise to me at all however it was pretty obvious that the cubs had little or no chance to win the division once the cardinals got Matt Holiday, Mark De rosa and Lugo. I def agree with post 11 I think Zambrano will be out of the game in a few years if he doesnt change his ways.

Wrigley Field - Home of the best team on paper! Zambrano already told the papers he wants to retire soon so I'm sure he's lost that competitive edge. It's a shame because he had the stuff to be a 20 game winner. THe Cubs are going to get worse and worse for the next 3 or 4 years too because of all the idiotic contracts they give to players after career years. Soriano, Bradley, Zambrano, Dempster, Fukudome, Ramirez...... THat's a whole lotta $$$$$ and a whole lotta years wrapped up in a bunch of injury prone underachievers.

Let's face it, guys who are 28 years old no matter what they do think they are invincible...I blame the cubs training staff as much as I do Zambrano...at 28 he feels he doesn't need to do these exercises...He is a young guy...but the training staff must be aware that he is not doing these things...There is really only one thing to do, strengthen the core and live in ice to keep the disc from becoming more inflamed. This is what I have to do for the disc in my neck...Ice is a great thing for these types of injuries. Where has the cub training staff been! They were asleep at the wheel of the bus know as big Z.
