The St. Louis Cardinals have already lost ace Adam Wainwright(notes) for the season. The last thing the team needs is an injured Chris Carpenter(notes), even if it's just minor. But that's what they've got.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Carpenter is not likely to take Friday's turn after experiencing a "twinge" Sunday in his strained left hamstring. He threw in the bullpen on Sunday and walked directly to the training room with head trainer Greg Hauck, the paper notes.

"I think our attitude has got to be patience, patience, patience," manager Tony La Russa said, according to the paper. "As long as he's able to do all his exercises, we're OK. We've just got to get him 100 percent-plus, in my opinion."
