Looks like reliever J.C. Romero(notes) isn't going to get another chance to win a World Series with the Philadelphia Phillies. The club has designated him for assignment to make room for rookie pitcher Vance Worley(notes) on the roster, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch hears that the St. Louis Cardinals may be snagging the 35-year-old lefty.

The emergence of 25-year-old lefty Antonio Bastardo(notes) for the Phils has made Romero dispensable. Bastardo has a 1.05 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 25 2/3 innings.

Two left-handers already hold down spots in the Cardinals' bullpen but one of them, Brian Tallet(notes), may be the man Romero ends up replacing. Tallet has a 7.15 ERA in 11 1/3 innings. Romero's ERA this year is 3.86 in 16 1/3 innings.
