St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols(notes) will have his fractured left wrist examined midday Tuesday and, if it looks good, he'll be activated from the disabled list, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
He's been stuck on the DL since June 20. He broke the wrist in a collision at first base trying to make a tag with his glove hand of the Kansas City Royals' Wilson Betemit(notes) on June 19, the Associated Press reports.
The three-time National League Most Valuable Player took ground balls and hit off a pitching machine Monday, the Post-Dispatch notes.
"I can't wait to get back on the field," Pujols said, according to the paper. "Hopefully, it can be [Tuesday]. If it's not, whenever the time comes will be the right time to play."
General manager John Mozeliak said the team doesn't want to get ahead of itself but is feeling pretty good that Pujols will return Tuesday.
Pujols is hitting .279 with 17 homers this season.
