New York Giants Super Bowl star Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg at a Manhattan nightclub and linebacker Antonio Pierce tried to hide the gun, police sources told the New York Daily News.

Burress is expected to be arrested on felony weapons charges in the coming days, while Pierce's attorney was in frantic discussions with cops last night to stave off criminal charges, police sources said.

Burress' latest self-inflicted wound came after he was initially turned away from the LQ nightclub in midtown because he was packing heat, police sources said. Burress, 31, who was sporting flashy jewelry and carrying loads of cash, told club management he needed the gun to protect himself, sources said.

The mercurial Giant was waved inside the crowded Latin-themed club on Lexington Ave. about midnight. He downed several drinks, making already jittery security guards more nervous about his weapon.

As Burress was being led into a VIP area, with a drink in his hand, the gun slipped down his pants leg. He reached for the weapon, but fumbled it and it went off, sources said. The bullet tore through Burress' already injured right thigh, police said.

He is a disgrace not only to the Giants but the NFL. Trade his gangsta wanna be a$$ to the Cowboys so he can team up with Pacman for the repay hit. What a piece of crap these two are.

Completely agree davfied. Ever since the Giants gave Burress that contract, he has been nothing but trouble and the Giants are screwed now because they have to pay him. He is absolutely pathetic. I mean what kind of dumbf**k shoots himself in his own leg.

Im a giant fan who is not happy with plaxicos actions but the day you trade him is the day you're going to want him back...hes an amazing athlete who creates oppertunity for the whole team and has as big of an effect on the running game as he does the passing.

Michael Vick might be looking for a "cellie." It is tough to be all alone during the Holiday's! His partner that was with him should be alongside him as well as being a co-conspire. What "money" can do to a person.

What a wasted life. Here's a guy who could help so many people, but he's the one in need of help. The NFL is turning into the National Felons League. No player in the league should be allowed to own a gun. No one should go anywhere they feel they need a gun for protection, except maybe your own neighborhood.

Burress is a low-life. That's why the Steelers let him go to the Giants. Get rid of the thug. Pierce's problem bothers me...he made a mistake trying to help a teammate...

Someone needs to tell these dip sticks that every Gun club trains you not to have a round in the chamber. In an emergency situation you still have time to load the round unless you have a musket in your pants. LOL!

What a chump. Nice work LQ Nightclub, let an unstable guy with a gun in your club because he's flashing lots of cash and jewelry, you're a bunch of [profane]s also. Too bad the bullet didn't rip through some more people in the VIP section. I can only imagine what type of characters are VIPs in that place.

Edwin P #16 : I agree! this guy is not only a thug, but a stupid one ! He gives all gun owners a bad name
John R #18: It is unlikely he will do two minutes in Jail. Although a better punishment would be for him to have shot himself in a more personal, and important part of his body.
