MLB - Sports Rumors

“TimAtlanta Braves starter Tim Hudson(notes) is apparently getting close to signing a three-year extension worth about $3 million annually, according to FOXSports.com

Hudson could make more dough than that on the free-agent market but apparently would like to stay in Atlanta so much that he's willing to discount himself. The deal is supposedly going to get done before week's end. Not bad for a guy who spent most of 2009 recovering from Tommy John surgery and going 2-1 with a 3.61 ERA.

This likely means the Braves will trade away Javier Vazquez(notes) or Derek Lowe(notes) this winter for a quality bat.

Are you crazy? Trade Lowe and keep Vazquez. Vazquez was a whole lot better pitcher than Lowe was. Look at the records.

Trade Vazquez or Lowe... I don't care... See if the Brewers would take them both for Prince Fielder. We would still have a more then solid rotation and finally have the power bat we need!

Its just a little funny to me that the Braves signed Lowe to that big contract, and after one year want to ship him off. You guys pay half the contract and I'm sure my Dodgers would take him back. I doubt the team that doesnt want to pay Fielder, is going to be willing to pick up those two contracts. So you Atlanta fans are out of luck.

Am I reading this right? Does that really say 3 mil per season? So let me get this right....he is declining a 1 yr option for 12 mil to sign a 3 yr for 9 mil? Wow...Atlanta must have a Jedi in the front office waving his hands telling Hudson.."you do not want more money...this isnt the option you're looking for" Good for him for wanting to stay in Atlanta and offered a discount but if Smoltz can get 5 mil coming off surgery so could Hudson.

I agree that he could get more, but I think the situation is more like Atlanta is not going to pick up his 12 mil option. But one would think he would get back up to at least the total 12 mil over three years, not less.

Cliff Lee dominated the Yankees last night if Pedro wins tonight and thats a big if the Yankees will be in huge trouble, i don't see the Yankees figuring out Cliff Lee at all that guy has pitched better then CC and we all know how good CC has pitched this season and the playoffs.

As for this rumor why would the Braves trade Javier vaquez him and Tommy Hanson were the Braves ACES this year no team in the national League could hit them for the most part of the year.
If the Braves trade both Vaquewz and Lowe they won't finish no better then 3rd next year in the NL East.
Unless they have some deal for Offense then the Braves should take it because they can't hit worth a Lick if there life depended on it.

I don't think they will trade both. I think they will trade one of the two. I hope they trade Lowe. Braves overpaid for him, and Vasquez found his niche in ATL this year. Vasquez has more value so you can get more for him, but I'm greedy and want to keep him.
How bout trade Lowe and Kawakami?
I like the rotation of Huddy, Vasquez, Jurjens, Hanson, and ???
Now if they can just get a bat!

The shelf-life of these big multi-year contracts is less than a season now. The big offers seem to be big mistakes very quickly. The question is....WHY DO THE TEAMS NOT SEE THIS COMING??

FOXSports means that likely it's coming from Ken Rosenthal, who has already shown that he doesn't know what he's talking about. Remember, he had Hudson opting for free agency.

Morning Crux and RS09 - If Pedro wins tonight its over. Jimmy Rollins could be wrong...Phillies sweep if Pedro wins tonight. CC did his job. 2 runs should be good enough. Phil Hughes broke down again and those tac on runs cost us a chance in the 9th. Oh well..hopefully Yankees bounce back tonight.

Lowe is 36 and on the decline. If the Braves ate half his contract, the Brewer may give up Fielder for Lowe and a prospect. Another option might be the Astros for Carlos Lee. How would an outfield of Lee, McClouth and Church sound? Plus that would allow the Braves to keep LaRouche at 1st. Keep Vasquez. He's younger and he has been a great mentor to Jurjens.

Yea Phil Hughes has been struggling the most part of these playoffs i madea comment about him looking rattled and he still hasn't figured it out.
I thought Marte did a good job for the Yankees last night getting Utley and Howard out in the 8th.
I didn't understand why Joe Giradi didn't bring in phil Coke to face Raul Ibanez instead of letting DAvid Roberston pitch to him.
That move didn't make much sense at all.

When Tim Hudson is healthy, he is one of the top pitchers in baseball. The Braves should count their blessings that Hudson is a home town boy. Good Luck, Tim. Wish you were still with us in Oakland!
