Now that the New York Yankees have signed Randy Winn(notes) to play left field, it couldn't be more official that Johnny Damon(notes) won't be calling the Bronx home field anytime soon. It is believed that the Oakland Athletics are leading the way on teams that will sign the slugger but the Atlanta Braves were also rumored to be interested.
That interest appears to have waned, according to NBCSports.com. The team apparently doesn't think his arm is strong enough anymore for Turner Field, he can't move around as well as he used to in the outfield, and he wants too much dough. Those are the three things that came up when Damon's name was mentioned as a possibility at a recent meeting.
The Braves source said folks in Atlanta think Damon will end up signing for $4 million or $5 million.
