MLB - Sports Rumors

Right-hander Kris Benson, who underwent shoulder surgery in 2007 and spent 2008 in the minors with the Philadelphia Phillies, will throw on Saturday for the Colorado Rockies — as well as the Dodgers, D-backs, Rangers, Padres, Indians and Cardinals.

The Denver Post rates the chance of him signing as unlikely because of his injury history, but his agent, Gregg Clifton, says his client has increased his strength and flexibility.

The door is open to the return of righty Josh Fogg, but the number of pitchers already signed is a deterrent to his signing a Minor League deal.

Hmmmmmm....Kris Benson or Josh Fogg??? I'd give both a shot as a middle reliever for a spring training invite at most but not as a starter option. Anna should just pose for Playboy already, she needs the press now that Kris' mediocre career is just about over.

I'd give it a shot, stewie - haha. And I'll babysit Anna while he is out throwing and talking. Man, that outfit she wore to the Mets' Christmas party a few years ago was pretty hot.

I agree jeffutlaw. Benson seems like the kind of first-round underachiever that Dave Duncan could get on track. Hopefully in the mold of a Loshe or Weaver and not so much a Kip Wells. Give him a minor league contract. It looks like Wolf and Sheets are gone. They won't sign Perez. I'd take Garland but there's nothing else out there for SP's at this point.

Ravens, he was an Oriole in 2006, his last MLB season. Not a terrible year but nothing special either. His best one since 2000, so the O's at least got something positive out of him for that year.

TJM, I actually posted something about that yesterday.
I believe I said something along the lines that to their great credit, the Cards have had some pretty decent luck with reclamation projects. Benson just seems to fit the bill for me there, just a gut feel more than anything. I immediately thought of Lohse as well. That worked out pretty good.

Jeff, as far as reclamation projects go, what about Jon Lieber? You think he still has 1 more year left in him? Another pitcher you haven't heard much about this offseason in Looper. He wasn't great in his 2 years as a starter with the Cards but wasn't bad either. With all the talk of back of the rotation innings eaters, he certainly could be one of them.

Lieber. Hmmm, to be honest, i really hadn't given him any thought this offseason. I wonder what's going to happen with him? Surprised Looper's name doesn't come up more, I did see where the Orioles supposedly had some interest. He could surely help a club out there, he's a decent arm.

I would think Anna has already been with most of the major league players at one time or another...maybe she should move on to the NFL....where she could have some real men!
