The New York Mets and Jason Bay(notes) are apparently in agreement that he'll come play for the team for the next four years in exchange for $66 million. But there is supposedly some concern that he won't pass the physical that would finalize the deal, according to the New York Post.
"The Mets do not want to embarrass themselves by confirming a deal then having to back away should Bay not pass the physical," says the Post. Especially considering what happened with Yorvit Torrealba(notes) a few years ago.
The Boston Red Sox apparently didn't want to sign a long-term contract with Bay because of some health concerns about Bay's shoulders holding up. So the Mets aren't asking Bay to just do a few sprints and call it a day.
If Bay stays healthy during the four years of the contract, a fifth year is reportedly very easily attainable.
