Arizona ditching Eric Byrnes?

“EricBaseball folks in Arizona used to love outfielder Eric Byrnes(notes), but now they seem to want him out of there as quickly as possible.

Byrnes, who has one year and more than $11 million left on his contract, apparently went to a meeting with his bosses last week that seemed to lead him to think he'll be traded, according to the Arizona Republic. "I would prefer to be here," Byrnes said. "But if they don't see me in a role that's going to contribute, then it's not a great situation for either of us." He's got a no-trade clause so he has control over where he ends up. One has gotta think he wants to be somewhere that actually wants him.

Byrnes noted that he would be disappointed to end the relationship and that he regrets trying play through a hamstring injury last year.

    Probably ends up in Boston if D-backs agree to pay some of his contract. He could replace Baldelli as their fourth OF.

    Eric Byrnes was one of my favorite Oakland A's, a few years ago, before they traded him. He was an all-out hustler, who reminded me of a young Pete Rose. Too bad, he got injured and his playing time is limited with Arizona.

    Jason G - I dont know if he'll get any playing time in Boston so it wouldnt make much sense for them or him. I think somewhere like the Nationals or Padres who could use an upgrade in their outfield if the D Backs pay some of the money makes some sense.

    Love to see him in Giants outfield next year, with the changes being made this off season they might need him.

    I could see him being a steal (money aside). When healthy he's a productive high upside outfielder.

    wow...imagine that a ex-oakland player not being any good after being traded. Billy Bean is doing some strange things out ther in Oakland.

    It has been so frustrating watching him the last two years with the D-Backs. 20+ hr, 50sb, 100+ runs, 80+ rbi a few years ago, and a solid left fielder. He keeps trying to play through hammy injuries, ends up tearing them and needing surgery. I don't know if it is his offseason conditioning or just bad trainers, but when he is healthy he is a great weapon to have on the field.

    Cost the A's a playoff game with his boneheaded steroid charged adreniline (ohh he gives max effort,,stroke stroke) bullship... hes not a real player...he just thinks he is one and does a good job of fooling everyone else

    If you're an outfielder with a history of behavioral problems, season ending injuries or you've seen your best days come and go, then the Chicago Cubs would love to speak to you. So Eric hang in there, as long as there's a team at Wrigley Field then you'll draw another paycheck.

    Saw him hit for the cycle against the Giants a few years back, I think he's from the Bay also. Dude come to SF!!!!

    Your probably right Artist, but they did say they wanted a right handed bat that could play all three outfield spots, and he fits the bill there. He could platoon with JD Drew who only plays half the season. I dont think the D-backs would pay enough money for the Pads to take him, but I could see the Nats.

    The Giants should probably look closely at EB for leftfield, since they could use a servicable outfielder for a year or two, they won't have a lot of money to go after the hitters that they need after thier pitchers get some updated contracts, Also he likes the Giants, he grew up in the Bay Area and is on the radio as well.
