BALTIMORE (AP)—The Baltimore Orioles had been waiting a long time.

For the past two weeks, the Orioles’ offense had been dormant. Losers of 10 of their previous 12 games, Baltimore broke out with a six-run rally in a messy seventh inning that led to an 8-4 win over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday night.

The Orioles scored their most runs in the past 16 games.

“We needed a big inning at some point. We needed a big game,” Brian Roberts(notes) said. “It didn’t necessarily have to come in one inning.”

Roberts tied a season-high with four hits.

Adam Jones(notes), Melvin Mora(notes), Aubrey Huff(notes) and Nick Markakis(notes) had been slumping, and they all contributed.

“It’s tough when you get four or five guys at the same time,” Roberts said. “Then, this will get us going for a month or two.”

“I’m not going to say that every ball we’ve hit for the past three weeks has been hard hit—right at somebody, but we’ve had good at-bats,” Roberts said. “I truly believe we’ve swung the bats better than we’ve looked like.”

A wild pitch, an error and two walks helped the Orioles’ comeback.

Baltimore trailed 4-2 entering the seventh, but Eric O’Flaherty(notes) (1-1) allowed the four batters he faced to get on base.

Markakis drew a leadoff walk, and singles by Huff and Mora produced a run. It was Mora’s first RBI in 25 games, breaking the longest dry spell of his career.

Luke Scott(notes) hit a tying single, but Mora was thrown out at third on the play. Peter Moylan(notes) relieved and gave up a single to Nolan Reimold(notes) and walked Matt Wieters(notes). The fourth ball to Wieters was a wild pitch that scored Scott to give Baltimore a 5-4 lead.

Robert Andino(notes) reached on an error by Moylan to load the bases, and Roberts hit a two-run double. Jones capped the burst with a sacrifice fly.

“I eventually gave up enough runs to lose the game. There’s no worse feeling,” Moylan said.

Orioles manager Dave Trembley said that he told hitting coach Terry Crowley before the inning that he thought the team would score five runs in the seventh.

“This is a start,” Trembley said. “We were a lot more patient.”

Jones gave the Orioles a 2-0 lead with his 13th home run of the year in the first inning.

Brian Bass(notes) (4-1) was the winner. He allowed two hits in three innings in relief of starter Rich Hill(notes), who gave up four runs in the fourth.

Danys Baez(notes) pitched a scoreless eighth and George Sherrill(notes) worked the ninth.

Hill, who has battled wildness the past two seasons, let five straight Braves reach base in the fourth. He walked two batters and gave up a single that loaded the bases with one out.

Matt Diaz(notes) hit an RBI single and Jeff Francoeur(notes) had a ground-rule double that scored two runs. Kelly Johnson’s(notes) sacrifice fly made it 4-2.

Braves starter Kenshin Kawakami(notes) worked five innings, giving up two runs and seven hits.

NOTES: Jones’ home run was the first by an Oriole other than Scott or Reimold since May 27. … Atlanta 3B Chipper Jones(notes) was 0 for 5. He’s hitless in his past 18 at-bats. … RF Francoeur’s nabbing of Mora was his sixth outfield assist. … Markakis recorded his second assist in two games. He leads American League outfielders with seven.

Why is there not more conversation about how bad the Braves bullpen is from the 7th inning on? I keep reading about how good Soriano and Gonzales are yet the Braves continue to lose ball games in the final 2-3 innings. Their setup guys have got to be the worst in baseball.

Hogarth 24.... Please give us a break. If you had been following the Braves all year you would know that Moylan gives up runs in bunches and has turned games around.... in the wrong direction. One game, one time, one out doesn't make up for that. Maybe he's not fully recovered from his injury, but why keep putting him out there?

hey runsilent101and Buck, perhaps you should pull your head out of your own arses before commenting on Moylan. Guy came in and got the biggest out of yesterdays game, and 24 hours later you are calling for his head. Wake up to yourselves...

Bobby Cox please retire. Nice career and all but your managing sucks anymore. You keep throwing guys out there like Moylan and continue to lose games for this club. Medlin sitting out there but you don't pitch this young kid. Bennett was pitching fine but you pull him for oflaherty. Its time for you to go spend quality time at home with your wife and don't beat on her.

Another well pitched game with no win for the starter. Pathetic! The Braves must have the best starters and the worst relievers in baseball. (Except for Soriano, Gonzales and Acosta. If we could only get to them!

Peter Moylan has got to go. He has blown too many leads by his wild, inconsistent pitching. The Braves need better middle relief in the worst way.

Let's hope KK has a start like his last that should be enough to win, I feel sorry for his run support. Otherwise he'd probly be 6-3 rather then 3-6. Seeing Mclouth having a good day at the plate today.

With the way we been pitching and going against slumping offenses, the braves dont need to hit the long ball. Just play small ball and manufacture runs and well be okay. Go Braves!!!!! Another AL east down the drain for us.

I hope it is the 7 inning with some K's. The Braves have not been hitting until last night but it doesn't matter for the O's if they are not hitting. They need to be a little more patient at the plate.
