Royals 7, Padres 0
Padres manager Bruce Bochy said Bautista and Burgos hit 98 mph on the radar gun.
“Usually, you don’t have two guys in the same game throwing that hard,” Bochy said. “We looked overmatched today.”
The Royals scored three times in four innings off Padres starter Chan Ho Park, who made his Cactus League debut after a brilliant stint with South Korea in the World Baseball Classic.
Park struck out seven but allowed six hits, including an RBI double by Angel Berroa in the second inning.
Emil Brown gave Kansas City a 7-0 lead with a grand slam in the fifth off left-hander Ryan Meaux, one of several candidates for a spot in the Padres’ bullpen.
Doug Mientkiewicz went 3-for-4 for the Royals, improving his batting average to .487 this spring.
