The Colorado Rockies look to extend their franchise-record winning streak to 11 games and boost their playoff chances as they conclude their final road trip Thursday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Colorado (86-72) beat Los Angeles 2-0 on Wednesday for its club-record 10th straight victory. The Rockies are a franchise-best 14 games over .500 and tied with Philadelphia, just one game behind San Diego in the NL wild card race with four games remaining.

“We’re embracing it and having fun,” said Wednesday’s winning pitcher Josh Fogg. “Every game’s important right now. The way we’ve been playing, you want to go out there and continue the roll.”

The Rockies have been doing it at the plate and on the mound during their current run that has also vaulted them within two games of division-leading Arizona in the West. Colorado will host the Diamondbacks for a final series starting Friday.

“The goal we set coming out of spring training was to win the division,” said Rockies manager Clint Hurdle, whose team is batting .316 and has a 2.94 ERA during the winning streak. “We’ve never turned our back on that. The only thing we can do is come out and win tomorrow.

“There’s an urgency to play well, that’s all they’re doing. They’re playing to win. They’re having a blast.”

Kaz Matsui and Matt Holliday each drove in runs in the third inning on Wednesday for the Rockies, who had just five hits. It was Holliday’s NL-leading 132nd RBI.

The NL MVP candidate is 3-for-7 in the series since missing two games with a slightly strained left oblique muscle and hitting .348 (23-for-66) with six homers and 16 RBIs against the Dodgers this season.

Rookie Franklin Morales (2-2, 3.15 ERA) will make his eighth start for the Rockies on Wednesday. He has not allowed a run over his last 17 innings of his last three starts while going 2-0.

The 21-year-old left-hander allowed one hit in six scoreless innings, but didn’t factor in a 2-1, 14-inning victory at San Diego on Friday.

Morales made his major league debut against the Dodgers, allowing a run in 5 1-3 innings, but didn’t factor in a 7-4, 14-inning Colorado road victory on Aug. 18.

Los Angeles will counter with Esteban Loaiza (1-3, 8.53), who looks to avoid losing his fourth straight decision.

Loaiza allowed six runs and five hits in four innings of a 12-3 loss at Arizona on Friday to fall to 0-3 with a 11.25 ERA in his last three starts since posting his first win with Los Angeles on Sept. 3.

The right-hander is 4-3 with a 6.28 ERA in 11 games—10 starts—against Colorado.

Los Angeles (80-78), which was eliminated from playoff contention after a 9-7 loss to Colorado on Tuesday, has lost nine of its last 10 contests.

The Dodgers are expected to play more younger players in the final four games, such as Delwyn Young, who had two hits Wednesday and is batting .478 (11-for-23) since being called up from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier this month.

“I think that’s kind of what we’ve become accustomed to over the last couple of days,” said Derek Lowe, who took the loss for the Dodgers on Wednesday. “I’m not the manager, but I don’t really see why it would change over the last four games.”
