Jason Marquis has not lost a start in more than three months.
Marquis, who has not lost since May 26, is 10-0 with a 3.11 ERA over his last 16 starts. The 26-year-old right-hander allowed four hits over 7 1-3 innings Sunday in a 4-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
“I felt great,” he said. “I’m feeling real good physically and my mechanics have been good. Things have been going pretty well and my team has a lot to do with that.
“We’ve been playing real good baseball. I’m just glad to be part of it.”
Marquis will now try to match the performance Matt Morris delivered in the series opener Friday. Morris pitched a two-hitter and struck out a season-high 11 to lead the Cardinals to a 3-0 win.
Reggie Sanders homered, doubled and had two RBIs for St. Louis, which won its seventh straight and became the first team in the majors to reach 90 wins.
The Cardinals, who have a 16 1/2 -game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central, have won eight in a row at home and are 36-11 at Busch Stadium since the All-Star break.
Los Angeles, which had won four of its previous five, managed just two hits for the second time this season Friday. The Dodgers will now look for another strong start from Kazuhisa Ishii.
Ishii will be trying to win his third consecutive start. During his two-start winning streak, the 30-year-old left-hander has allowed three earned runs over 13 1-3 innings.
He gave up one run and four hits over six innings Sunday in a 10-2 win over the New York Mets.
