Ishii looks to maintain his dominance over Arizona as Los Angeles Dodgers continue their four-game series with the Diamondbacks at Bank One Ballpark.
Ishii has padded his record against Arizona in three years with the Dodgers.
The Japanese left-hander is 6-1 with a 1.45 ERA in 10 career starts against the Diamondbacks. Three of his 10 wins this season have come against Arizona.
Ishii cruised to his latest win over Arizona in his final start before the All-Star break on July 7. He faced just 29 batters during his first career one-hitter, leading Los Angeles to an 11-0 rout at Dodger Stadium.
“He threw a lot of strikes tonight. And when he throws strikes, he’s very effective—especially against us,” Arizona outfielder Steve Finley said. “He got the big lead and he just went right after us.”
Ishii has not allowed an earned run in six of his 10 career starts against Arizona.
Shawn Green hit a grand slam in the eighth inning to power Los Angeles to a 4-3 win over Arizona on Thursday.
Once again, the Diamondbacks’ bullpen wasted an exceptional effort from left-hander Randy Johnson, giving up all four runs after Johnson was taken out of the game.
Johnson struck out nine and had an RBI single in seven scoreless innings. He increased his major league-leading strikeout total to 154 while coming up short by one of his 198th double-digit strikeout game.
Right-hander Brandon Webb will start Friday’s game for the Diamondbacks. Webb is 0-4 in his last seven starts despite a 2.93 ERA over that span. He went 3-7 with a 3.33 ERA in 14 starts after the All-Star break last season.
Arizona has lost 20 of 24 games, while the first-place Dodgers have won 12 of their last 15.
