Barry Bonds looks to move closer to Willie Mays on the all-time home run list and help the San Francisco Giants stay in the hunt for home-field advantage in the National League playoffs as they face the Los Angeles Dodgers in a doubleheader at Pacific Bell Park.

Bonds hit his 658th career homer Friday, helping the Giants beat the Dodgers 10-1. He is now two behind his godfather Willie Mays, who ranks second all-time in home runs.

However, Bonds doesn’t want to talk about the mark until he reaches it. For now, he’s just focusing on the games.

“Three more games, then playoffs,” he said.

Bonds, who talked with Mays before the game, also singled twice and received a standing ovation when he was replaced by a pinch-runner in the sixth inning.

The win kept the Giants one game behind Atlanta for the best record in the AL. The Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-0 Friday.

The Braves have just two games left in their schedule. Including Saturday’s doubleheader, the Giants will play three more games with the Dodgers and will face the New York Mets in a makeup game on Monday, if it has any bearing on the race for home-field advantage in the NLCS.

Rich Aurilia also homered Friday for the Giants, who have won nine of their last 12 games.

Jolbert Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a double for the Dodgers, who were eliminated from the playoff hunt on Thursday. Los Angeles has lost seven of its last 11.
