The Colorado Rockies look to win their first series at home in more than a month as they host the San Diego Padres in the middle game of their series at Coors Field.

Colorado, which hasn’t won a series in Denver since beating Florida in three straight from Aug. 19-21, took the series opener from San Diego 6-5 on Friday night.

Making his pitch for a spot in next year’s rotation, Rockies right-hander Scott Elarton won for the first time in three months, allowing one run and three hits over six innings in his first victory in six starts since June 8.

He was sent to the minor leagues on June 27 because of ineffectiveness and was recalled Sept. 5.

San Diego is limping toward the finish, having dropped seven of its last eight games.

“We’re still trying to win games,” Padres manager Bruce Bochy said. “We haven’t played all that well lately but we still want to go out there and win.”

The Padres need six wins in their last nine games to match last year’s 66-92 record.
