Odalis Perez looks to rebound from the worst outing of his career and help Los Angeles in its quest for the wild card as the Dodgers try to complete a three-game sweep of the struggling Colorado Rockies at Dodger Stadium.
Perez had his four-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday, giving up a season-high 10 earned runs and 10 hits in 4 2-3 innings of an 18-4 loss to the Houston Astros.
“I don’t know,” said Perez, who came in unbeaten in August with a 2.76 ERA. “It’s like they knew what I was going to throw. I was throwing everything good and they were hitting the ball everywhere, just crushing my pitches.”
The 10 runs allowed were the most for a Dodgers pitcher since Carlos Perez gave up 10 on July 23, 1999.
“Odalis struggled throwing strikes and was up in the zone, but they hit his good pitches, too,” catcher Paul Lo Duca said. “Tip your hat to them. It was one of those days.”
Perez, whose ERA increased by nearly half a run, said he would shrug off the start.
“Bad games are going to come,” he said. “I’m not going to break my head over one bad game. That’s not me. I’m not going to worry about it.”
The Dodgers, who beat the Rockies 5-0 on Saturday, sit just 1 1/2 games behind wild card leaders Florida and Philadelphia.
Ronnie Belliard doubled for the Rockies, who have lost seven of eight.
