The Oakland Athletics hope to build on their most impressive offensive performance of the season as they wrap up a four-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays at Skydome.

The A’s pounded the Blue Jays 17-2 on Sunday as both Ramon Hernandez and Miguel Tejada hit grand slams. Oakland had not managed a single grand slam all season before delivering a pair in one game for the first time in the 103-year history of the franchise.

The A’s also compiled a season-high 19 hits.

“Today was probably one of the best offensive outputs that I’ve had when I’ve pitched since I’ve been here,” Oakland starter Tim Hudson said. “It’s nice. I wish we could spread some out.”

Billy McMillon and Jose Guillen also homered for Oakland, which has recovered from Friday’s series-opening 6-3 loss by outscoring Toronto 28-7 over the last two games.

The A’s are 4-2 on their seven-game road trip, but Sunday marked the first time an Oakland starter got a win on the swing. Oakland’s bullpen is 3-0 with two saves and a 3.28 ERA during the trip.

Their recent offensive surge has moved the A’s within one game of first-place Seattle in the AL West. Oakland and Boston are tied atop the AL wild card standings.

The Blue Jays are 3-3 on their seven-game homestand.
