Rodriguez went 1-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs Wednesday, helping lead Texas to an 7-3 win.
Rodriguez has hit .353—his best against any AL team—against the Tigers during his 10-year career, with 18 home runs and 67 RBIs. Through the first three games of this series—the first between the teams this season—he has gone 6-for-12 with four RBIs.
In the midst of an offensive surge, Rodriguez is hitting .427 (38-for-89) with nine homers, 19 RBIs and eight stolen bases in his last 24 games.
On Wednesday, Rafael Palmeiro—who rejected a trade to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday—went 2-for-4 with a triple and a homer, and Michael Young went 3-for-4 with a double for Texas, which has won 10 of its last 14 games.
Mike Maroth lost his major-league high 17th game for the Tigers, who own the worst record in baseball.
“The first inning has nipped us all year,” Tigers manager Alan Trammell said. “It’s too much. It puts us in a catch-up mode from the get-go. But I like that we competed to the end and went hard until the final out.”
Texas will send John Thomson to the mound Thursday. The veteran right-hander pitched 1 2-3 perfect innings against the Tigers on Monday, but did not return after a one hour, 51-minute rain delay.
The veteran right-hander has won five of his last six decisions and is 2-0 with a 3.80 ERA in his last four starts. He has won a career high-tying nine games this season.

TIGERS PROBABLE STARTER: Matt Roney (1-7, 4.99 ERA). Roney gave up two earned runs and three hits in five innings of Detroit’s 8-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins on Saturday, and did not receive a decision. The rookie right-hander has never faced the Rangers.
RANGERS PROBABLE STARTER: Thomson (9-10, 5.31 ERA). Monday’s start was Thomson’s first against Detroit.

STREAKS AND NOTES: Tigers - OF Dmitri Young missed his second straight start Wednesday with sore Achilles’ tendons. Trammell hopes to have Young, who went 0-for-1 as a pinch-hitter, back the lineup Thursday. … 3B Eric Munson also sat out his second straight game with a jammed left thumb and wrist, but said he doesn’t expect to be out much longer. … RHP Roney is 0-7 with a 7.59 ERA in 17 road appearances, including seven starts, this season. Rangers - 2B Michael Young has 153 hits this season, three more than he had last season. … RF Juan Gonzalez has undergone a number of tests on the strained right calf that has kept him on the DL since July 23. Team medical personnel will evaluate the results on Thursday and could determine when or if Gonzalez can play again this season. … RHP Ismael Valdes, who has been on the disabled list since July 24 due to knee tendinitis, retired all 18 batters he faced in a rehab start for Double-A Frisco.
