Graves has not won a decision since July 1, going 0-5 with a 6.70 ERA during his slide. The right-hander has struggled all season to make the transition from closer to starter. He is 4-12 with a 5.34 ERA this season after having 32 saves and a 3.19 ERA as the Reds’ closer in 2002.
Graves, who turned 30 on Thursday, has been victimized by the home run, allowing 26 in 24 appearances, two behind major league leader Ryan Franklin of Seattle.
Graves has had success in his career against San Diego, going 2-0 with three saves and a 3.68 ERA in 16 appearances, including one start.
Taylor, who entered as a pinch runner in the seventh, was in a 1-for-27 slump before Saturday’s grand slam.
Brian Lawrence will try to get San Diego back on track on Sunday. Lawrence has struggled through his worst season as a pro, going 5-14 with a 4.73 ERA.
The right-hander is trying to avoid becoming the first pitcher in the NL to lose 15 games. Detroit’s Mike Maroth (6-16) and Jeremy Bonderman (5-15) are the only pitchers in the majors with at least 15 losses.
Lawrence is 3-7 at home despite a 3.49 ERA at Qualcomm this season.
