Ramon Ortiz has had a penchant for ending losing streaks for the defending World Series champion Anaheim Angels this season.

He’ll be faced with another when the Angels try to avoid a three-game sweep by the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

The 30-year-old right-hander has halted four Anaheim skids, including two of three since the All-Star break. On Friday, he pitched seven innings of three-hit ball in a 5-0 home victory over Toronto, ending Anaheim’s three-game losing streak and Roy Halladay’s major league-high 15-game win streak.

“Ramon did a great job shutting down a terrific offense,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.

Ortiz, who has a team-high 13 wins and a team-low 4.21 ERA, has won nine of his last 12 decisions. He is 4-2 with a 2.90 ERA over his last six starts.

Anaheim has lost four straight, including Wednesday’s 4-2 decision. The Angels have scored more than two runs just once during the slide.

Boston has won three in a row following a four-game losing streak.

Nomar Garciaparra hit his 20th homer, and David Ortiz added an RBI triple for the Red Sox, who lead the AL wild card standings by a half-game over Oakland.

Garciaparra’s homer was his second in as many days. The All-Star shortstop has five homers and 10 RBIs over his last nine games. He has reached base in 51 of his 52 home games, including the last 13.
