Still searching for his first career win as a starter, rookie R.A. Dickey will take the mound for the Texas Rangers as they shoot for a three-game sweep of the Cleveland Indians at the Ballpark in Arlington.
Dickey is 0-2 in three starts since joining the rotation on July 11. The 28-year-old right-hander yielded two runs and seven hits over five innings, but did not receive a decision in Texas’ 14-7 loss to Boston on Tuesday.
Dickey struck out a career-high six, walked one and was in line for a win before Texas’ bullpen imploded.
“R.A. battled them tooth and nail pitching on three days’ rest,” Rangers manager Buck Showalter said. “We couldn’t hold it together after that. It got away from us.”
The Rangers have won four in a row, including Saturday’s 9-7 triumph. Rafael Palmeiro delivered a tiebreaking double and hit one of Texas’ three homers as the Rangers increased their major league-leading total to 167.
Alex Rodriguez has homered in three straight games for Texas, which has not won five straight since a season-high seven-game run from May 16-23.
The Indians have lost 12 of 16 since the All-Star break.
STANDINGS (through Aug. 1): Indians - 4th place, 13 GB, AL Central. Rangers - 4th place, 20 GB, AL West.

The left-hander has yielded three earned runs or fewer in all but two of his last 14 outings. Anderson is 2-3 with a 4.37 ERA in seven career starts against the Rangers.
