Kevin Brown is winless in his last five starts, but he has not received much help in that period either.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will look to provide Brown with some offensive support when they meet the Philadelphia Phillies in the middle game of their series at Veterans Stadium.

In his five-start winless streak, Brown is 0-4 with a 2.61 ERA. The Dodgers have totaled just nine runs in those five games.

On Thursday, Brown was masterful in eight scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies, allowing three hits while striking out six. He did not get a decision, as the Dodgers won 1-0 win in 11 innings.

The Dodgers, last in the National League with 362 runs, have lost three of their last four—scoring a total of two runs in those four games.

They managed just three hits in a 2-0 loss to the Phillies in Tuesday’s series opener. Bobby Abreu hit a two-run homer off Kazuhisa Ishii to give the Phillies their only runs.

“I don’t have a lot to say,” Dodgers manager Jim Tracy said. “Our guy made one bad pitch. He pitched a great game and the bullpen did its job again.”

While Tracy is pleased with the way his bullpen has pitched in recent games, relief pitching had become a concern for Phillies manager Larry Bowa.

Vicente Padilla eased Bowa’s worries by pitching eight strong innings Tuesday to help Philadelphia break a four-game losing streak. During that skid, the Phillies’ bullpen totaled 15 2-3 innings and accounted for three of the losses.

With Tuesday’s win, the Phillies maintained their one-game lead over the Florida Marlins in the NL wild-card race.
